In-depth interpretation of key test methods

1. Rotating Thin Film Heat Aging (RTFOT)

Simulates the short-term aging of asphalt during the mixing process. The standard test conditions are 163℃×85min, and modified asphalt can be tested at 180℃. The main evaluation indicators include:

  • Mass change rate ≤±1.0%
  • Residual penetration ratio ≥50%

2. Pressure aging test (PAV)

Typical application case:After PAV aging of a PG76-22 modified asphalt at 100℃/2.1MPa, the DSR fatigue factor G*sinδ increased from 1.2kPa of the original asphalt to 4.8kPa, showing significant aging characteristics.


Technology evolution analysis

This standard incorporates the MSCR test into the specification system for the first time, and evaluates the delayed elastic recovery ability of asphalt through the dual stress levels of 0.1kPa/3.2kPa, replacing the single indicator of traditional DSR. The comparison data shows:

Implementation suggestions

  1. PG grading test should follow the progressive test process of original-RTFOT-PAV
  2. DSR test needs to be regularly calibrated with standard silicone oil, the deviation should be ≤0.1℃
  3. BBR specimen demoulding temperature should be controlled within the test temperature + 10℃ range
