GB/T15670.4-2017 "Toxicology Test Methods for Pesticide Registration Part 4: Probability Unit Method for Acute Oral Toxicity Test" is an important standard for pesticide toxicity assessment, mainly used to determine the acute oral toxicity of pesticides. I. Background of Standard Formulation

As important agricultural inputs, pesticides play a key role in preventing and controlling pests and diseases and ensuring food security. However, the toxicity of pesticides may cause harm to humans and the environment, so toxicology tests must be carried out during the pesticide registration process.

Acute oral toxicity is an important indicator for evaluating the toxicity of pesticides, and the probability unit method (Miller and Tanner method) is a classic acute toxicity assessment method. GB/T15670.4-2017 partially replaces GB/T15670—1995, and optimizes and supplements the test methods.

After exposure, the poisoning symptoms and deaths of animals should be closely observed, and the reaction time and severity should be recorded. Surviving animals should be humanely killed and autopsied at the end of the experiment.

Implementation Recommendations

  • Strictly select experimental animals and dosage design according to the standards to ensure the accuracy of the test results.
  • For pesticides with lower toxicity, a simplified method with a one-time limit of 5000mg/kg body weight can be used.
  • It is recommended to use the Bliss method to calculate the LD50 value, which does not require equidistant dose groups and has higher accuracy.
