GB/T 1572—2018 standard was drafted based on the rules of GB/T 1.1—2009, and the main updates include:
- The term definitions "slagging property" and "slagging rate" were added.
- The periodic verification requirements for the constant temperature zone of the muffle furnace were strengthened.
- A new chapter "Test Report" has been added to ensure the integrity and standardization of test data.

Slagging:The performance measurement of coal ash softening, melting and slagging during the gasification or combustion process, expressed as slagging rate.
Slagging rate:The mass percentage of slag pieces with a particle size greater than 6 mm in the slag after the sample is gasified and burned at the specified blast intensity.

Instruments and operating specifications
The main instruments include:
- Slagging tester: includes key components such as flue gas chamber, gasification sleeve, and air chamber.
- Blower: air volume not less than 12 m³/h, air pressure not less than 49 hPa.
- Muffle furnace: has a constant temperature zone and can maintain the temperature at (350±10)°C.
Implementation suggestions and precautions
To ensure the accuracy of the test results, it is recommended to:
- Regularly calibrate the instruments and equipment, especially the muffle furnace and flowmeter.
- Prepare the samples strictly in accordance with the standard requirements, especially the coal samples with volatile coke slag characteristics greater than 3 need to be debonded.
- During the measurement process, pay attention to observe and adjust the air flow in time to reach the specified value.
