Scope
This standard specifies the general requirements and type tests for the following equipment in accordance with IMO Resolution A.694(17). a) Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) marine radio equipment; b) Electronic navigation equipment and other navigation equipment required to be shipped by Article 12 of Chapter V of the 1974 revision of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS). The requirements of this standard do not affect the application of new technologies, as long as the functions provided are not lower than those specified in the standard. The minimum performance standards, test methods and required test results are limited to the general parts of the above equipment. If a requirement in the equipment standard is different from this standard, the requirement in the equipment standard shall be given priority. The clause numbers of IMO Resolution A.694(17) are indicated in brackets.
