Introduction

Interpretation of the core content of the standard

GB/T 16479-2020, as the latest national standard for light rare earth carbonate, replaces the 2008 version of the standard and is mainly applicable to light rare earth carbonate products prepared from fluorocarbon cerium ore-monazite mixed concentrate as raw materials. This standard has significantly improved product quality control requirements through 11 technical revisions.

Comparison of Key Technology Changes

Technical Dimensions Requirements of the 2008 Edition Changes in the 2020 Edition Technical Significance
Total Rare Earth Content (REO) ≥44% Increased to ≥45% Purity requirement increased by 2.3%
CeO₂ content control ≥62% 62%-68% range control Achieve precise composition control
Non-rare earth impurities CaO≤0.5% Strict as ≤0.05% Purity standard increased by 10 times
New control indicators No F-requirement New F-≤0.015% Improve control of harmful elements

Product classification and brand system

The standard subdivides products into three brands, using a character brand + digital brand dual-track system:

  1. (LaCe)(CO₃)-65Ce (formerly 193244A): cerium content 62-68%, suitable for high cerium application scenarios
  2. (LaCePr)(CO₃)-58Ce (formerly 193244B): New radioactivity index ≤0.8Bq/g
  3. (LaCePrNdEu)(CO₃)-0.2Eu (formerly 193242): More precise control of Eu₂O₃

Typical case: After a rare earth enterprise adopted the new standard, the SO₄²⁻ content of the (LaCe)(CO₃)-65Ce product dropped from 0.05% to 0.03%, significantly improving the performance stability of subsequent polishing materials.

Key points of testing and quality control

The standard stipulates the use of a dual testing system:

  • Rare earth element testing: in accordance with GB/T 16484 series standards
  • Non-rare earth impurity testing: in accordance with GB/T 12690 specifications

Special requirements require that 193244B brand products must be tested for radioactivity, and a step-by-step sampling plan must be adopted according to the batch size when sampling (see Table 2).

Suggestions for the implementation of the standard

Manufacturers should focus on:

  1. Establish a element content range control process (such as 62-68% control of CeO₂)
  2. Add new fluorine element detection equipment and method verification
  3. Improve the radioactive material control system
  4. Double-layer moisture-proof packaging (three specifications of 50kg/500kg/1000kg) is required in the packaging process
