本标准规定了产品材料特性的资源构造和按不确定度和可靠度表征的数值数据的资源构造。下述内容属于本标准的范围：材料特性与产品的关系；按成分数量和类型构成产品的规定；使材料特性有效的定性和定量条件的规定；数值数据按不确定度和可靠度的表征；包括被测或被赋值特征的材料特性及其表达的规定；包括涂层的产品表面的材料特性。下述内容不属于本标准的范围：材料特性值的组合与转化（例：对大量相互组合的测试结果进行的统计分析决定了设计值。本标准提供了测试结果和测试结果组合的表达，但没有提供组合的过程）；材料特性在产品行为分析中的用途（例：将多个单独特性值组合为分析模型中所用的系数矩阵）；产品表面抛光或表面修正时的细微几何结构。
