《GB/T 16856.1-2008机械安全 风险评价 第1部分：原则》由TC208（全国机械安全标准化技术委员会）归口，主管部门为国家标准化管理委员会。
GB/T 16856《机械安全 风险评价》分为两个部分，本部分是GB/T 16856的第1部分。
本部分等同采用ISO 14121.1-2007《机械安全 风险评价 第1部分：原则》（英文版）。
本部分代替GB/T 16856-1997。
GB/T 16856的本部分规定了预期实现GB/T 15706.1-2007第5章给出的风险减小目标的一般原则，这些原则综合了机械有关的设计、使用、事件、事故和伤害的知识和经验，以进行机器寿命周期内各种风险的评价。
本部分给出了进行风险评介所需要的信息指南，规定了识别危险、评估和评定风险的程序。
本部分也给出了关于做出有关机械安全决定和验证已完成的风险评价所需要的文件类型的指导。
本部分不适用于家畜、财产或环境的风险。
与GB/T 16856-1997相比，主要技术内容修改如下：

Scope

This part of GB/T 16856 specifies the general principles expected to achieve the risk reduction objectives given in Chapter 5 of GB/T 15706.1-2007. These principles integrate the knowledge and Experience in order to evaluate various risks in the life cycle of the machine. This section gives guidance on the information required for risk assessment, and specifies the procedures for identifying hazards, assessing and assessing risks. This standard also gives guidance on the types of documentation required to make decisions about the safety of machinery and to verify a completed risk assessment. This section does not apply to risks to poultry, property or the environment.
