In-depth interpretation of GB/T 18033—2017 Seamless copper water pipe and copper gas pipe

Standard update and background analysis

This standard replaces GB/T 18033—2007, adds TU1, TU3 and TP1 grades, and revise the representation of status codes. The main changes include:

  • Nominal size is changed to Nominal diameter
  • The provisions for pipe roundness are added
  • The requirements for wall thickness tolerance are increased. The wall thickness tolerance of pipes with a wall thickness greater than 3.5mm is adjusted from 15% to 12%

Technical performance and application cases

Based on Take>TP2 as an example, its tensile strength in the drawing (hard) state is not less than 315MPa, which is suitable for high-pressure water and gas delivery systems. In practical applications, it is necessary to select the appropriate wall thickness deviation level according to the nominal diameter.


Inspection and implementation suggestions

To ensure product quality:

  • Chemical composition detection: conduct arbitration analysis according to GB/T5121
  • Mechanical property test: adopt GB/T228.1 standard, select S7 or S1, S2 specimens
  • Non-destructive test: Eddy current flaw detection is recommended (wall thickness ≤3mm)
