Analysis of Material Technical Requirements

Chapter 5 of the standard clearly states that impermeable graphite materials are divided into two categories: impregnated graphite and pressed graphite. Their physical and mechanical properties must meet the following requirements:

  • Tensile strength: ≥26MPa at room temperature (impregnated graphite tube)
  • Permeability coefficient: ≤2.9×10-3mm2/s
  • Binder shear strength: ≥12.0MPa

  1. Compressive strength test (GB/T13465.3)
  2. 205℃ high temperature tensile test

  • Block type heat exchanger pressure test: 1.5 times the design pressure
  • Permeability coefficient test: Vacuum decay method (Appendix C)

Acceptance data of a certain project

The DN800 graphite absorber has been subjected to a water pressure test of 1.75 times the design pressure (0.84MPa), and the pressure is maintained for 60 minutes without leakage. The permeability coefficient is measured to be 2.1×10-3mm2/s.


Implementation suggestions and risk prevention and control

  1. Material traceability: Establish a quality archive for the entire chain of graphite substrate-impregnant-binder
  2. Process digitization: Automatic recording of curing temperature/time parameters (Article 9.1.3)
  3. Personnel certification: Bonding workers must be certified before they can take up their posts (Article 7.1.4)
  4. Special medium protection: Product test pieces should be made for containers of extremely hazardous media (Article 7.8.1)
