GB/T24328 series of standards are authoritative technical specifications for the toilet paper industry. Its Part 1, Terminology Guidelines, systematically defines 134 core terms for toilet paper base paper, toilet paper products and related processes. Compared with the 2009 version, the 2020 version has made the following technical adjustments:

Core term analysis

1. Basic performance terms

Absorbency (3.1): defines the ability of paper products to absorb and retain liquids, including absorption rate (3.2.2), water absorption time (3.2.3) and other sub-items. The water absorption time should be determined according to the basket immersion method in accordance with GB/T24328.6.

2. Processing technology terms

Embossing process (3.22) is subdivided into 12 types, including:

• Paired steel roller embossing (3.22.9): Precision embossing with matching male and female dies
• Overlap embossing (3.22.10): Unique process of multi-layer composite

The standard specifies two brightness test conditions:

1. D65 brightness (3.8.1): Simulates outdoor daylight (457nm wavelength)
2. C brightness (3.8.2): Simulates indoor daylight environment
