Scope
This standard gives guidance on the use in industry of passive AC filters and shunt capacitors for harmonic suppression and reactive power compensation, both at low and high voltages. The recommended measures proposed in this standard are applicable to harmonics from the 1st order to the 25th order (inclusive). This standard does not apply to the following capacitors: capacitors for induction heating devices; series capacitors for power systems; coupling capacitors and capacitive voltage dividers, etc. (see the standard for details). The purpose of this standard is to analyze problems arising from the routine application of shunt capacitors and filters in industrial a.c. networks subject to harmonic voltages and harmonic currents, and to give recommendations.
