Scope

This standard specifies the material requirements for vulcanized rubber seals for potable and non-potable hot water (up to 110 °C) supply pipes. The identification codes of various sealing rings specified in this standard are determined according to the type, use and requirements of the sealing rings. This standard also specifies general requirements for finished seal rings. Additional requirements required for a particular application shall be specified in the corresponding product standard. It should be noted that the performance of the pipe joint is related to the performance of the sealing ring material, the geometry of the sealing ring and the structure of the pipe joint. This standard shall be used in conjunction with product standards specifying the performance of pipe joints, as applicable. This standard applies to cast iron pipes, steel pipes, ceramic pipes, asbestos cement pipes, cement pipes, reinforced concrete pipes, plastic pipes and glass fiber reinforced plastic pipes and other pipe joint sealing rings. This standard applies to the elastomeric portion of composite or non-compound seals. For composite sealing rings made of materials with a hardness ranging from 76IRHD to 95IRHD, the elongation at break, compression set and stress relaxation requirements apply only when the material participates in the sealing function or requires long-term stability of the sealing ring. This standard does not apply to joint seals made of porous rubber materials or closed-cell materials as part of their construction.
