Scope

This document specifies the light radiation safety requirements, light radiation safety assessment, and risk level requirements for ultraviolet lamp products [including ultraviolet light-emitting diode (UV LED) lamp products]. It also provides information on user safety measures and the corresponding identification for ultraviolet lamp products. This document applies to lamps and lamp systems whose primary purpose is ultraviolet radiation, and where more than half of the emitted radiation power (180 nm–3000 nm) falls within the spectral range of 180 nm–400 nm. If more than half of the emitted light radiation (180 nm–3000 nm) is outside the spectral range of 180 nm–400 nm, then GB/T 30117.1—2024 shall apply. This document also applies to medical diagnostic and cosmetic equipment or products that primarily emit ultraviolet radiation. Since the photobiological effects of ultraviolet radiation are based on the total cumulative exposure (dose) received, this document is based on the concept of "time-cumulative average" exposure, where the assessment distance used to determine the risk level (RG) is determined based on the actual irradiation distance and duration. In other words, people will not be exposed to ultraviolet radiation for extended periods at very close range (e.g., 20 cm–30 cm). This document provides assessment distances and specific guidance for specific applications and practical situations, which differ from the general values in GB/T 30117.1—2024; the specific applications in GB/T 30117.1—2024 are unknown, and the time-cumulative average exposure is not for products specific to a particular application. This document does not apply to: lamp products that primarily emit visible light (such as general lighting sources) and/or infrared radiation; lamp products used for general lighting, infrared lighting, or heating, which are specified in the respective separate standards; ultraviolet fluorescent lamps used for tanning (compliant with GB/T 4706.85—2024, or see GB/T 21096—2013); medical treatment devices or products (compliant with YY9706.257—2021); non-optical hazards, such as ozone, mercury, etc. Note: When the product is circulated in the Chinese market, the relevant labeling information can be found in GB 44703.
