Scope

This standard is used to guide the design and implementation of web pages in managed websites. The purpose is to improve the operation of managed websites, including: a) locating relevant information; b) promoting ease of use; c) reducing legal disputes; d) providing effective development and maintenance practices. This standard focuses on factors that are independent of suppliers and products. This standard provides guidance for individuals who design and develop web pages, as well as administrators responsible for developing guidelines for web development. This International Standard defines recommended practices for the engineering of World Wide Web sites in the context of intranets and extranets. For web design not subject to engineering good practice, this International Standard does not take into account stylistic or human factors. Appendix A contains topics that are not fully mature, and specific recommended topics that are not included in the current version of this standard. This standard provides guidance for web page developers in intranet and extranet environments on recommended practices for web site engineering. It aims to improve the operational efficiency of intranet or extranet web pages in locating relevant information, and to improve development and maintenance practices. In this standard, "should" indicates a required clause, "should" indicates a recommended clause, and "may" indicates an option or change clause permitted by this standard. This standard strongly encourages users to consider recommended terms, however, the implementation of these recommended terms does not fall within the scope of web page compliance requirements.
