Introduction

GB/T 32496-2016 Standard Interpretation: Test Method for Volume Content of Reinforcement in Metal Matrix Composites

1. Background and Significance of Standard Formulation

GB/T 32496-2016 standard is to standardize the determination method of volume content of reinforcement in metal matrix composites, and is applicable to particle-reinforced and unidirectional continuous fiber-reinforced metal matrix composites. The formulation of this standard fills the gap in this field in China and provides an important basis for scientific research and industrial application.

1.1 Scope of application of the standard

  • Particle-reinforced materials with a particle size of reinforcement greater than 1μm
  • Unidirectional continuous fiber-reinforced materials with a diameter greater than 1μm
  • Applicable to scientific research, production and quality inspection and other fields

2. Standard framework and technical principles

2.1 Method principles

This standard is based on stereological principles and image analysis technology, and calculates the reinforcement volume percentage in three-dimensional space through two-dimensional cross-sectional data. The core formula is: VV = AA = LL , where:

  • VV: Volume percentage of the particles or fibers to be tested
  • AA: Area percentage of the particles or fibers to be tested
  • LL: Percentage of the cutting line segments of the particles or fibers to be tested

3. Experimental methods and equipment requirements

Test method Applicable materials Key indicators
Image analyzer method Particle reinforced metal matrix composites Area percentage (AA)
Microscope method Unidirectional continuous fiber reinforced metal matrix composites Cutting line segment percentage (LL)

4. Experimental results and data analysis

Experimental result calculation formula:

  • VV = ∑ ni=1 VV i / n (arithmetic mean)
  • s = √(∑ (VV i - VV)² / (n-1)) (standard deviation)

The calculation result is rounded to three significant figures.

5. Implementation suggestions and precautions

5.1 Equipment selection

  • Image analyzer: with quantitative measurement function, recommended model XYZ-100
  • Metallographic microscope: magnification ≥1000 times, equipped with a rotatable micrometer eyepiece

5.2 Sample preparation

Ensure that the sample surface is free of deformation and scratches, and maintains the original organizational structure. It is recommended to use an automatic grinding-polishing machine for sample preparation.

5.3 Data processing

For complex matrix materials, it is recommended to use manual intervention to correct the data to ensure the accuracy of the measurement results.
