Scope

This standard specifies the test method for determining the stress cracking resistance of polyethylene (PE) materials in environmental reagents. In this test, a notched sample is cut from a compression molded test piece or product, and the sample is immersed in an environmental agent maintained at a specified temperature, such as a surfactant solution, and a static tensile load is applied to determine the failure time. This standard is applicable to the evaluation of polyethylene materials, and is also applicable to the evaluation of the impact of hazardous substances/chemicals and other aggressive environments on polyethylene extrusions, such as pipe sections, polyethylene welded parts, and polyethylene blow-molded containers. Other thermoplastic materials, For example, polypropylene (PP) can also be used by reference.
