Implementation recommendations for quarantine identification methods for plum sawflies

Background analysis:Plum sawflies (Hopllocampta flavain) are an important quarantine pest that mainly harms apricot and plum trees. It has a variety of transmission routes, including eggs and larvae spread with host fruits, and is highly concealed and destructive.

1. Preparations before quarantine

  • Equipped with professional quarantine personnel and necessary equipment (such as stereo microscopes, incubators, etc.).
  • Be familiar with the biological characteristics and damage symptoms of plum sawflies.
  • Ensure adequate supply of reagents and consumables, especially key materials for specimen preparation (such as Hodgkin's mounting medium).

2. On-site testing and laboratory identification

On-site testing:At the quarantine site, carefully observe whether the fruits of the host plants have suspicious symptoms. Suspicious larvae found should be sent to the laboratory together with the damaged fruits for feeding and observation.

Laboratory identification:Observe the morphological characteristics of adults (such as antennae, wing veins, external genitalia, etc.) through a stereo microscope, and dissect the external genitalia of male insects to confirm the species when necessary. At the same time, assist in the determination by combining the morphological characteristics of eggs and larvae.

3. Specimen preservation and information recording

  • All identification results should be made into specimens and permanently preserved to ensure traceability.
  • Detailed records of collection time, location, host and other information are required to facilitate subsequent research and data analysis.

4. Suggestions on optimization of quarantine technology

Technical improvement:It is recommended to introduce molecular biology technology (such as PCR) for rapid identification to improve quarantine efficiency and accuracy. At the same time, a regional monitoring network should be established to achieve early warning of the epidemic of plum sawflies.

International cooperation:Actively participate in the formulation and revision of international plant quarantine standards and promote unified quarantine measures worldwide.
