Introduction
Background of Standard Revision and Technological Evolution
GB/T 33588.7-2020, as Part 7 of the Lightning Protection System Components (LPSC) series of standards, replaces the 2017 version of the standard. The main technical changes include:
- Added a new step for measuring the resistivity of powder materials (Clause 5.3.3)
- Improved the specification requirements for grounding electrodes for corrosion tests (Clause 5.9.1)
- Deleted the corrosion test items for buried materials
- Added normative Appendix A type test process

Analysis of key test methods
Resistivity measurement system
A four-electrode box (size 0.5m×0.1m×0.1mm) is used with an AC power supply (50Hz) for measurement. A pressure of 100N/m² is applied to the powder material for 1 hour. Calculation formula:
ρ=(R·A)/a, where A is the cross-sectional area and a is the electrode spacing
High current withstand test
- Impulse current: 8/20μs waveform, 6kA peak, 10 impulses
- Power frequency current: 30A effective value, 10s duration, 5 cycles
Project implementation suggestions
- Radioactivity (Ira≤1.0) and heavy metal indicators must be verified when selecting materials
- Material should be in close contact with the grounding body during construction
- Resistivity changes should be checked regularly, and replacement is required if it exceeds 20% of the initial value
- Corrosion effects of different types of grounding bodies (round steel/flat steel) should be evaluated separately
