Scope
This document applies to lightning protection for wind turbines and wind energy generation systems. Lightning protection for small wind turbines is covered in Annex M. This document specifies the lightning environment for wind turbines and the environmental application of risk assessments for wind turbines. This document specifies requirements for protecting blades, other structural components, and electrical and control systems from direct and indirect lightning effects. To verify compliance, this document provides recommended test methods. This document provides guidance on how to use relevant lightning protection, industrial electrical, and electromagnetic compatibility standards, including how to ground. This document provides guidance on personal safety. This document provides guidelines for damage statistics and reporting. Normative references are used to prepare general standards for lightning protection of machinery, equipment, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) in low-voltage and high-voltage systems.
