Introduction

GB/T 34035—2017 Professional Interpretation of Thermocouple Field Test Method

Background of Standard Formulation and Analysis of Technology Evolution

As a key temperature measurement component in industrial processes, the reliability of thermocouples directly affects production safety and product quality. The formulation of GB/T 34035—2017 "Thermocouple Field Test Method" aims to standardize the test process before and after the installation of thermocouples and their connecting wires to ensure the stable performance of the equipment during use.

With the improvement of industrial automation, the application scenarios of thermocouples are becoming increasingly complex. This standard provides differentiated test methods for different types of thermocouples (insulated and grounded), reflecting the in-depth consideration of actual application scenarios in technology evolution.

Test items Scope of application Purpose of measurement Technical requirements
Loop resistance measurement All thermocouples and their compensation wires Check for open circuit or short circuit problems during installation to ensure the integrity of the connection. Use a digital resistance meter with a resolution better than 0.1Ω; consider the impact of thermoelectric potential on the measurement.
Insulation resistance measurement Insulated thermocouple complete set and its compensation wire Evaluate the integrity of the protective sleeve and moisture-proof seal to prevent short circuits. Use megohmmeter or megohm bridge, the test voltage is selected according to the outer diameter of the material; record the insulation resistance change before and after installation.
Thermoelectric potential measurement All thermocouples and their compensation wires Confirm that the polarity connection is correct to prevent measurement errors caused by wiring errors. Use a microvoltmeter or thermocouple indicator to compare the voltage value and polarity change before and after installation.

Implementation suggestions

1. Preparation before installation:

  • Ensure that the model and color code of the thermocouple and compensation wire comply with GB/T4989-2013.
  • Record the loop resistance, insulation resistance and thermoelectric potential values before and after installation as reference data.

2. Measurement environment control:

  • Avoid the influence of high temperature or humid environment on the measurement results, especially when testing after installation.
  • When using a heater to heat the measuring end, ensure that the temperature change rate does not exceed 0.017°C/s (i.e. 1°C/min).

3. Data analysis and recording:

  • Regularly check the working status of the thermocouple unit and compare historical measurement data.
  • Establish a complete test file archive, including test results before and after installation and regular maintenance records.

Explanation of professional terms

Type of terminal (junction class)

Describes the electrical continuity between the thermocouple and the protective sleeve or circuit reference ground terminal, which is divided into insulation type and grounding type.

Sensing circuit

Consists of thermocouples and compensation wires, excluding signal conditioning components such as amplifiers or transmitters.

Thermocouple assembly

A complete assembly that includes thermocouple elements, terminals, and related mounting parts.
