Interpretation of the National Standard of the People's Republic of China GB/T 3464.1-2007

1. Background and Significance of the Standard

GB/T 3464.1-2007 is a national standard of the People's Republic of China, which mainly regulates the technical requirements of machine and hand taps. This standard replaces the previous GB/T 3464.1-1994 and has made many improvements in technical details and scope of application.

2. Comparative analysis of standard frameworks

Scope of application Applicable to general-purpose machine and hand taps for machining common threads (GB/T 192, GB/T 193, GB/T 196, GB/T 197). Added the requirement for taps with a diameter of d ≤ 10 mm to be made into external centers.
Technical parameters Includes nominal cutting angle (front angle γ_p is 8°~10°, back angle α_p is 4°~6°) and recommended cutting cone length. The marking method of the neck length in Figures 1 and 2 has been modified, and a new marking example has been added.
Normative references GB/T 192, GB/T 193, GB/T 196, GB/T 197 and other standards have been cited, replacing some international standard clauses. Added a reference to GB/T 969, and deleted some appendix contents of ISO 529:1993.

3. Implementation suggestions and application cases

Implementation suggestions:

  • When selecting a tap, the applicable model should be determined based on the nominal diameter and pitch of the thread to be processed.
  • For small-diameter taps with d ≤ 10 mm, it is recommended to give priority to the use of external center structures to improve processing accuracy.
  • In mass production, it is recommended to use groups of unequal-diameter taps to optimize processing efficiency and cost control.

Application Case:

For example, in the automotive manufacturing industry, in the processing of M10×1.5 right-hand coarse thread ordinary threads, it is recommended to use high-performance grade H1 machine taps (marking example: machine tap H1 M10-H1 GB/T 3464.1-2007) to ensure processing accuracy and service life.
