1. Background and significance of the standard

GB/T 34707-2017 "O-chlorotoluene for Industrial Use" is a national standard formulated by China for o-chlorotoluene products, which aims to regulate product quality, test methods and safety requirements. The standard was proposed by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation and is managed by the Organic Chemical Industry Branch of the National Chemical Standardization Technical Committee.

4.1 Determination of impurity content by gas chromatography

A gas chromatograph equipped with a hydrogen flame detector was used, and the separation degree must be ≥1.5. The accuracy of the test results was ensured by comparing the typical operating conditions in Table 2 with the actual retention time (see Appendix A).

4.2 Analysis steps and data processing

After the chromatograph is adjusted to be stable, inject 0.2μL of sample. Calculate the content of each component based on the peak area, and consider the effect of moisture on the result (Formula 1).

5. Safety measures

The flash point of o-chlorotoluene is 47℃, which is flammable. When storing, it should be placed in a cool and ventilated place, away from fire and oxidants. Explosion-proof equipment should be used during transportation, and dangerous goods regulations should be strictly followed.

6. Suggestions for implementation of standards

  • Process optimization: Use efficient distillation technology to reduce impurity content.
  • Detection equipment: Invest in high-performance gas chromatographs to ensure data accuracy.
