Introduction

1. Background and significance of standard formulation

The National Standard of the People's Republic of China GB/T 35705-2017 "Ship Position Instrument" was formulated to standardize the performance and technical requirements of underwater positioning and measurement systems to ensure their safety and reliability in the fields of offshore drilling and platform installation. This standard is managed by the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Marine Electrical and Electronic Equipment and is applicable to the design, manufacture and acceptance of ship position instruments.

2. Technology evolution and framework comparison

Standard dimensions GB/T 35705—2017 Internationally accepted standards Comparison with old standards
Technical requirements The effective range of the ship position instrument shall not be less than 2000 meters, and the positioning error shall not be greater than R×1% (RMS) + 0.5 meters. Sonar Standards International (SSI) Specifications - The old version of the standard did not specify the specific error range- Update: Added additional functional requirements for GPS/Beidou equipment
Environmental adaptability Required to pass low temperature, high temperature, constant humidity, mold, salt spray and vibration tests. MIL-STD-810G Environmental Test Standard - The old version only covers some environmental tests- Update: Added seawater corrosion resistance requirements
Safety and electromagnetic compatibility The electrical interface is designed to prevent mis-insertion, and the grounding resistance of the signal processing equipment housing is not greater than 0.02Ω. IEC 61508 Industrial Automation Control System Safety Standard - The old version did not involve electromagnetic compatibility- Update: Added lightning strike resistance requirements

3. Technical points in the implementation of the standard

Ship position meter workflow: The underwater acoustic transmitter on the platform sends out a query signal through the transducer, which is received by the underwater transponder after propagation in the water and returns a response signal. The ultra-short baseline array on the platform receives the signal, and after preprocessing and solving, the relative coordinates of the target are finally obtained.

Positioning error calculation formula:

$$ x = \frac{R c \tau_{x}}{D} $$

$$ y = \frac{R c \tau_{y}}{D} $$

$$ H = [R^2 - x^2 - y^2]^{1/2} $$

Note: H is the target depth, R is the distance between the ultra-short baseline array and the target, and D is the array baseline length.

Environmental adaptability test requirements:

  • Low temperature:-40°C to -10°C, for 72 hours
  • High temperature:55°C to 85°C, for 72 hours
  • Constant damp heat:Temperature 35°C, humidity 95%, for 48 hours
  • Salt spray:Exposure to 5% NaCl solution for 10 days
  • Vibration:According to GB/T 7094 standard, sine wave frequency 2Hz to 50Hz

Safety requirements:

The ship position instrument must have protection measures against lightning strikes and ensure the special anti-misinsertion design of the electrical interface. The transponder battery must pass safety tests such as overcharge and overdischarge to avoid the risk of combustion or explosion.
