Introduction

GB/T 35813—2018 Standard Interpretation: Guidelines for Specificity, Consistency and Stability Testing of New Plant Varieties

Standard Dimensions Technical Requirements Evaluation Methods Implementation Recommendations
Distinctness Evaluated by the differences in the traits of the test materials, including qualitative traits and quantitative traits. Qualitative traits: at least one trait has significant differences; quantitative traits: at least two traits have significant differences or the codes are incoherent. It is recommended to test in multiple growth cycles to ensure that environmental factors do not affect the evaluation results.
Uniformity Evaluated by the heteromorphic plant method, with a maximum of 1% heteromorphic plants allowed. Judged based on the trait consistency of 9 test materials. It is recommended to randomly sample the test materials to ensure the representativeness of the results.
Stability Evaluated by observation of continuous growth cycles to ensure the consistency of trait expression under different environments. If special questions arise, additional tests or new test materials are required. It is recommended to give priority to the promotion of varieties with genetic stability.

Implementation suggestions

1. Preparation of test materials: Ensure that the test materials are two-year-old plants that are propagated asexually, with a quantity of no less than 9 plants, and are free of pests and diseases.

2. Selection of test site: Select an area that matches the growth habits of the variety to be tested for testing, and ensure that the environmental conditions can fully express the trait characteristics.

3. Comparison with standard varieties: When evaluating specificity, similar varieties must be clearly selected and ensure that they are included in the specificity test.

4. Data recording and analysis: Record data strictly in accordance with the trait characteristic table in Appendix A, and use the RHS Colour Chart for color trait evaluation.
