Background of standard formulation and analysis of technical evolution

With the development of the cosmetics industry, antiperspirant active ingredients are increasingly used in antiperspirant cosmetics. In order to ensure product quality and safety, the national standard GB/T 35893—2018 came into being. This standard aims to standardize the determination of zirconium aluminum chlorohydrate complex, zirconium aluminum chlorohydrate glycine complex and aluminum chlorohydrate in cosmetics, providing scientific basis and technical support for the industry.

Analysis of the determination principle and steps

Spectrophotometry: Zirconium ions react with azoarsenic III in a hydrochloric acid medium to form a purple complex with characteristic absorption at 664 nm. This method is suitable for the determination of low-content antiperspirant active ingredients.

Inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry: The zirconium and aluminum elements in the sample are detected by ICP technology, and their characteristic spectral lines (257.139 nm and 343.823 nm for zirconium, and 308.215 nm and 394.401 nm for aluminum) are used for quantitative analysis. This method has high sensitivity and is suitable for the determination of high-concentration samples.

  • The laboratory should be equipped with precision instruments that meet the standard requirements (such as spectrophotometers and inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometers).
  • Operators must undergo professional training and be familiar with the reagent preparation and sample handling procedures in the standard.
