Introduction

1. Standard Overview

GB/T 36801-2018, National Standard of the People's Republic of China, specifies the quarantine identification method for lemon rust (Gymnosporangium clavipes Cooke & Peck). This standard applies to the quarantine identification of lemon rust in host plants, alternate host plants and their products.

2. Principles of Quarantine Identification

According to GB/T 36801-2018, the identification of lemon rust is mainly based on its morphological characteristics and disease symptoms. The standard refers to the microscopic morphological characteristics diagram in Appendix A and the disease symptom diagram in Appendix B, and also refers to the geographical distribution, host range and other information of the pathogen.

3. Quarantine and Identification Methods

Steps Detailed description
Symptom inspection Observe the disease symptoms on the host plant, including spindle-shaped swellings on the trunk and branches, black-green lesions on the fruit, etc.
Morphological characteristics Observe the teliospore pile, rust spore organ and spore morphology under a microscope, including characteristics such as size, color and wall thickness.
Result judgment Compare the symptoms and morphological characteristics with the standard description to confirm the type of pathogen.

4. Distinguishing between G. clavipes and similar species

To ensure the accuracy of identification, GB/T 36801-2018 provides a comparison table in Appendix D, which lists in detail the differences between G. clavipes and other similar species in terms of host, geographical distribution, rust spores and spore characteristics. Here are some key differences:

  • Host range: The main hosts of G. clavipes include apples, pine trees, etc., and the secondary hosts are North American junipers and European junipers.
  • Geographical distribution: Mainly distributed in North America, South America and Central America.
  • Rustic spore characteristics: 2mm to 3mm high, tubular, cracked at the top or cracked on the sides.
  • Tyliospore characteristics: double-celled, oval, wall thickness 0.5μm~1μm, with constriction on the septum.

5. Implementation recommendations

To ensure the effective implementation of the standard, the following measures are recommended:

  1. Training: Regular training of quarantine personnel to familiarize them with the standard content and identification methods.
  2. Equipment support: Equipped with necessary microscopes, stereo microscopes and other instruments and equipment.
  3. Sample preservation: Properly preserve pathogen samples and related records for re-inspection and arbitration.
