Technical Background of the Standard

As environmental regulations become increasingly stringent, the control of biocides in coatings has become an industry focus. Triclosan is a commonly used preservative, and its residue may cause environmental and health risks. As part of the GB/T 37363 series, this standard is aligned with the ISO method and fills the gap in the domestic triclosan testing standard in the coatings field.

Key Operation Points

Sample Pretreatment Specifications

Solid samples need to be filtered through a stainless steel metal sieve (pore size 0.55mm). During ultrasonic extraction, the water bath temperature must be controlled to ≤30℃, and the centrifuge chamber temperature must be monitored simultaneously. The methanol extract needs to be filtered through a microporous membrane (0.45μm for LC and 0.22μm for LC-MS/MS).

Standard Curve Verification

The LC method requires a linear determination coefficient R²>0.999, and the LC-MS/MS method requires >0.995. During the experiment, it was found that when a certain laboratory used Agilent 1260 HPLC, the R² of the standard curve was only 0.997, and the gradient elution program or chromatographic column activity needed to be checked.


Technology Evolution Analysis

Compared with the 2015 draft for comments, the 2020 official version has the following major improvements:
1. Add LC-MS/MS as an arbitration method
2. Clarify the centrifugal temperature control requirements
3. Supplement ammonium acetate as a mobile phase modifier


Implementation Recommendations

  1. For export product testing, LC-MS/MS is preferred to meet the requirements of EU REACH regulations
  2. Regularly verify the column efficiency of the reversed-phase chromatographic column and replace it when the theoretical plate number decreases by 15%
  3. Establish an internal laboratory quality control chart to monitor the recovery rate (recommended range 85-115%)
