Influence of material properties
The high elastic modulus of silicon nitride (Si3N4) causes a change in the contact stress distribution, and the reduction in theoretical load capacity is compensated by increasing the bm coefficient.
Implementation recommendations
- The radius of curvature of the groove should be controlled within the standard recommended value range (ball bearing ≤0.52Dw)
- The fatigue load limit calculation needs to take into account the characteristics of ceramic materials, which is about 15-27% lower than that of steel bearings
- Thrust bearings need to additionally apply the reduction factor η
