Introduction
Interpretation of the core content of the standard
This standard replaces GB/T 4056-2008 and adopts the IEC 60120:1984 international standard. It mainly regulates the ball and socket connection dimension system of disc-shaped and long-rod insulator string components. The 36/40 connection mark is added, and the locking pin matching requirements are strengthened.

Football inspection specifications
Five major gauges are required:
- Ball height-rod diameter-rod length through gauge (Table B.1)
- Ball diameter go gauge (Table B.2)
- Ball height stop gauge (Table B.3)
- Ball diameter stop gauge (Table B.4)
- Rod diameter stop gauge (Table B.5)
Example: The rod diameter d1 of a 28-type foot ball must meet the 27.5mm stop gauge test and fails (tolerance 29.0-1.5mm)
Implementation suggestions
Gauge management requirements
- The wear limit value of the go gauge can be found in the "Wear Limit" column of each table (e.g., if the 11-type connection go gauge D1≤12.500mm, it will be scrapped)
- It is recommended to use HRC62-63 hardness steel to manufacture gauges, with a surface roughness of Ra<4μm
Assembly gap control
According to the requirements of Table 5:
- The Dd1 gap of type 20 connection should be controlled within 2.0-5.4mm
- The minimum Q value is 1.8mm when the W-type pin is matched (1.5mm for the R-type pin)
Technology evolution analysis
Main improvements compared to the 2008 version:
- Add 36/40 large-size connection marks to meet the needs of UHV lines
- Refine the matching dimensions of the locking pin (refer to GB/T 25318-2019)
- Supplement the h4 size requirements of the double-foot ball (Table 4)
- Improve the gauge wear limit marking system
