Quality requirements of desiccant for foods

1 Scope

This document specifies the classification, technical requirements, inspection rules, labeling, marking, packaging, transportation and storage requirements of desiccant for foods, and provides the inspection methods.

This document is applicable to the production, inspection and marketing of desiccant for foods produced by food raw and auxiliary materials.

3 Terms and definitions

For the purpose of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.

desiccant
product that can absorb moisture through physical and/or chemical action, reduce the humidity in the corresponding sealed packaging to a certain degree, and keep it for a certain time

3.2
moisture absorption rate
under certain temperature and humidity conditions, the percentage of the mass of a certain amount of desiccant absorbing water vapor and that of desiccant not absorbing water vapor in equilibrium
 
4 Classification

4.1 Classification principle

According to the main raw materials, desiccants for food are classified into:

a) Silicagel desiccant;

b) Mineral desiccant;

c) Lime desiccant;

d) Desiccant for fiber (i.e. natural plant fiber);

e) High polymer (i.e. high absorbent resin) desiccant.
