Introduction
Professional interpretation of ultrasonic testing methods for wind turbine rotor blades
1. Standard overview
GB/T 42592-2023 "Ultrasonic testing methods for wind turbine rotor blades" specifies the general requirements, inspection procedures and result processing for contact ultrasonic pulse reflection method/penetration method testing of wind turbine rotor blades. The standard is applicable to ultrasonic testing of internal defects of wind turbine rotor blades made of glass fiber or carbon fiber reinforced composite materials, covering the main beam pultrusion molding process and infusion molding process.
2. Classification of detection technology levels
| Technical level | Scope of application | Detection requirements |
|---|---|---|
| Grade A | Blades with low defect detection rate requirements, or random inspection of in-service blades | Not requiring full coverage; the scanning method can be interval scanning, with the maximum interval not exceeding 200mm |
| Grade B | Blades with high defect detection rate requirements | Achieve full coverage; optional grid scanning, with adjacent areas overlapping by at least 10% |
| Grade C | Blades with very high defect detection rate | Phase-controlled array ultrasonic testing technology must be selected; full coverage is also required |
3. Key technologies and equipment specifications
Phase-controlled array probes are the core equipment for ultrasonic testing, and their performance directly affects the test results. According to standard requirements, phased array probes should meet the following conditions:
- Frequency range: 0.5MHz~2.5MHz
- The number of array elements of a single probe should not be less than 64
- The error between the measured center frequency and the nominal frequency should not exceed ±10%
4. Implementation suggestions
To ensure the quality of testing, it is recommended to take the following measures:
- Personnel training: All testing personnel must obtain ultrasonic flaw detection technical level qualification certificates issued by relevant national authorized departments.
- Equipment maintenance: Regularly calibrate and check the performance of the instrument to ensure that it meets the standard requirements.
- Environmental control: Avoid interference sources such as strong magnetism, vibration, high frequency, etc., and ensure that the temperature and humidity of the testing site are within the allowable range.
- Data recording: Detailed records of parameter settings, sensitivity calibration and defect assessment results during the testing process.
