Post-crash safety requirement for fuel cell electric vehicle

1 Scope

This document specifies the special post-crash safety requirement for fuel cell electric vehicles and describes the corresponding test methods.

This document is applicable to Categories M and N fuel cell electric vehicles that use compressed gaseous hydrogen with the nominal working pressure of the onboard hydrogen system of not exceeding 70 MPa.

3 Terms and definitions

For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 19596, GB/T 24548, GB/T 24549-2020, GB/T 26990, GB/T 15089, and the following apply.

3.1
main shut-off valve
valve used to shut off the supply of hydrogen gas downstream from a hydrogen storage cylinder

[Source: GB/T 24549-2020, 3.1, modified]

3.2
enclosed or semi-enclosed spaces
space inside the vehicle that may be exposed to the hydrogen storage cylinder and an environmental space or area where hydrogen gas may accumulate

Note: For example, the passenger compartment, luggage compartment, cargo compartment or the space under the front hatch cover are enclosed or semi-enclosed spaces.

[Source: GB/T 24549-2020, 3.4, modified]

3.3
nominal working pressure; NWP
limited charging pressure at which the gas pressure inside the hydrogen storage cylinder reaches a completely stable state at the reference temperature (15°C)

[Source: GB/T 24549-2020, 3.5, modified]

3.4
compressed hydrogen storage system; CHSS
device for storing hydrogen in a fuel cell vehicle consisting of a hydrogen storage cylinder (group), a safety pressure relief device, and a closing device for isolating the stored hydrogen from the rest of the fuel system and its environment

Note: See the thick line part specified in Figure 1.
