Introduction

GB/T 6525—2019 Standard Overview

GB/T 6525—2019 "Determination of room temperature compressive strength of sintered metal materials" is a standard method for compressive strength testing of sintered metal materials at room temperature. This standard replaces the previous GB/T 6525—1986, and mainly revise and optimize the test methods, term definitions, sample preparation and data processing.

Background of Standard Formulation and Technological Evolution

With the widespread application of sintered metal materials in the industrial field, the requirements for testing their mechanical properties are increasing. Since its release, GB/T 6525—1986 has provided an important technical basis for the industry. However, with the advancement of test technology and the in-depth study of material properties, the original standard can no longer meet modern testing needs. Therefore, GB/T 6525-2019 came into being, focusing on solving the following problems:

  • Normative reference documents were added to ensure the scientificity and traceability of the test methods.
  • Terms and definitions were clarified to avoid result deviations caused by differences in understanding.
  • Test conditions and data processing methods were optimized to improve the accuracy and consistency of test results.

Technical Points

GB/T 6525-2019 specifies the method for determining the room temperature compressive strength of sintered metal materials, which is applicable to machined or non-machined sintered metal materials (except cemented carbide). The following are the core technical points of the standard:

Specimen requirements

Items Specific requirements
Specimen shape Solid cylindrical
Diameter $13\mathrm{mm}\pm0.2\mathrm{mm}$
Aspect-diameter ratio $1\sim2\pm0.05$

Test equipment and conditions

The accuracy of the testing machine is required to be Grade 1 or better and shall be inspected in accordance with GB/T16825.1. The test shall be conducted at room temperature ($10^\circ\mathrm{C}\sim35^\circ\mathrm{C}$), and temperature-sensitive tests shall be completed at $23^\circ\mathrm{C}\pm5^\circ\mathrm{C}$.

Data Processing and Result Analysis

The calculation of the compressive yield strength, specified plastic compressive strength and compressive strength are respectively carried out by the following methods:

  • Compressive yield strength:Based on the platform load or the minimum load of the first drop of the compression curve of the testing machine.
  • Specified plastic compressive strength:The stress value when the deformation reaches 0.2% is measured by an extensometer.
  • Compressive strength: Brittle materials are based on the maximum breaking load, while plastic materials are based on the stress value under specified strain conditions.

Comparison of standard frameworks

The following are the main differences between GB/T 6525—2019 and GB/T 6525—1986:

Dimensions GB/T 6525—1986 GB/T 6525—2019
Term definitions Terms and definitions are not clarified. New terms such as compressive yield strength and specified plastic compressive strength are added.
Specimen preparation Only the requirements for the planeness and parallelism of the two end faces are mentioned. Parallelism and perpendicularity tolerances are clarified, and roughness requirements are added ($R a\leq1.25~\mu\mathrm{m}$).
Testing machine accuracy No clear requirements. Requires Grade 1 or better, and calibration is required.

Implementation recommendations

To ensure the effective implementation of the standard, the following measures are recommended:

  • Staff training:Systematic training for test personnel, focusing on mastering new terminology, specimen preparation and data processing methods.
  • Equipment calibration: Regularly calibrate the testing machine and extensometer to ensure that the measurement accuracy meets the requirements.
  • Record management: Standardize the content of the test report to ensure data integrity and traceability.
