Key technological innovations

Compared with the 2008 edition, the 2017 edition has the following major improvements:

  1. Added Inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry for determination of low-content elements (Chapter 16)
  2. Expanded the detection range of manganese monoxide and phosphorus pentoxide
  3. Optimized the determination method of loss on ignition (modified Chapter 7)

Typical analysis process example

Silicon dioxide determination (hydrofluoric acid gravimetric method)

Steps:

  1. The sample is determined>Platinum crucible 1000-1100℃ burn to constant weight
  2. Add HF+HNO₃ to dissolve and evaporate
  3. Use nitric acid to drive out fluorine and then burn and weigh again
  4. Calculate SiO₂ content by the difference between the two masses

Calculation formula: w(SiO₂)=[(m₁-m₂)+(m₃-m₄)]/m×100%


Implementation suggestions

  • For high silicon samples (SiO₂≥98%), the subtraction method is recommended
  • ICP-OES method is preferred for multi-element analysis
  • Pay attention to blank test and verification with standard substances
