Scope

This standard applies to DC fixed capacitors with metallized layers as electrodes and polyethylene terephthalate (referred to as polyester) film as the medium for electronic equipment. Such capacitors may have "self-healing properties" based on usage conditions. It is mainly used in occasions where the AC component is less than the rated voltage. Capacitors in this part include two performance levels, level 1 for long-life use, and level 2 for general use. This section does not include fixed capacitors for suppressing power supply electromagnetic interference and metallized polyethylene terephthalate film dielectric direct current chip fixed capacitors. These two types of capacitors are included in IEC 60384-14 "Fixed Capacitors for Electronic Equipment Part 19: Specific Specifications for Fixed Capacitors for Suppressing Electromagnetic Interference in Power Supply" and IEC 60384-19 "Fixed Capacitors for Electronic Equipment Part 19: Substandard Metallization Polyethylene Terephthalate Film Dielectric DC Chip Fixed Capacitors section.
