3. Test Principle and Methods
The drop weight tear test (DWTT) tests the drop weight tear performance of steel by breaking a specimen in a simply supported beam state with a one-time impact force. The main indicators include shear area percentage (SA%), total absorbed energy (Eell), crack initiation energy (Ei) and crack growth energy (Ep).
4. Implementation Suggestions
Precautions when implementing DWTT test:
- Ensure that the test equipment meets the energy requirements, and the hammer blade hardness and curvature radius meet the standards.
- The shear deformation zone and heat-affected zone should be removed during specimen preparation to avoid affecting the test results.
- Select the appropriate notch type (pressed notch or herringbone notch) according to different materials.
