Introduction

1. Standard Overview

GB/T9104-2022 "Test Method for Industrial Stearic Acid" is a national standard of the People's Republic of China, used to determine the various indicators of industrial stearic acid. This standard replaces the previous GB/T9104-2008 and introduces new determination methods and improved technical requirements.

3. Interpretation of key indicators

3.1 Iodine value determination

Iodine value is an important indicator for measuring the degree of unsaturation of stearic acid. It is determined by the addition reaction of iodine chloride and stearic acid. The standard specifies the reagent preparation method in detail (see 4.2), and the endpoint is determined by starch indicator.

3.2 Determination of saponification value

Saponification value reflects the reactivity of stearic acid with potassium hydroxide. Potassium hydroxide ethanol solution is used in the test, and the titration endpoint is determined by phenolphthalein indicator (see 5.3).

3.3 Determination of acid value

Acid value is an indicator of the free carboxylic acid content in stearic acid. It is determined by potassium hydroxide standard titration solution (see 6.1), and the result is obtained by calculation.

4. Implementation suggestions

  • Prepare reagents and instruments strictly in accordance with the standard requirements to ensure accuracy.
  • It is recommended to equip professional personnel for operation, especially when toxic reagents are involved.
  • Calibrate the equipment regularly to ensure measurement accuracy.
