Introduction

Standard Overview

QX/T 237-2014 specifies the types and description methods of the core metadata of the Fengyun polar-orbiting series of meteorological satellites, and is applicable to the full life cycle management of satellite datasets. The standard is formulated with reference to GB/T 19710-2005 "Geographic Information Metadata", and contains 8 normative appendices and 12 code tables.

Core metadata types

Metadata subsetEnglish abbreviationRequiredMain content
Metadata entity informationMD_MetadataRequiredIdentifier, language, creation date, etc.
Data resource identificationMD_IdentificationRequiredSatellite name, observation instrument, orbital parameters
Data qualityDQ_DataQualityOptionalQuality level, abnormal event record
Reference systemRS_ReferenceSystemOptionalCoordinate system, projection method

Key technical elements

Satellite observation instrument codes

Appendix B.4 of the standard defines the abbreviations of 19 observation instruments carried by the FY-3 satellite, such as:

  • MWTS: Microwave thermometer
  • IRAS: Infrared spectrometer
  • SEM: Space environment monitor

Data quality grading

Quantitative evaluation is achieved through the dqGrade element, and the processing process of abnormal events needs to be recorded in the lineage element.

Implementation Suggestions

Metadata Description Specifications

1. FY-3D satellite data should fully fill in the orbit parameter entity (MD_orbParm), including:

  • semiMajorAxis
  • orbital inclination
  • ascension

2. Archival information should indicate the media type (tape/disk) and retention period

Standard Evolution Analysis

Compared with the 2005 version, the 2014 version adds:

  • Accuracy requirements for satellite altitude (satHeight)
  • Data dump record (translationRecord) field
  • Ultraviolet ozone detector (SBUS) and other new equipment coding
