Introduction
Technical background and evolution of the standard
As an important technical specification issued by the General Administration of Customs in 2020, this standard fills the gap in the testing method for quantitative evaluation of the flammability of textiles. Its technical framework is inherited from GB/T 16172-2007 building materials test method, but three major innovations have been made for the characteristics of textiles:
- Sample treatment: Add aluminum foil wrapping process to control edge burning effect
- Radiation parameters: Set three levels of radiation illumination of 25/35/50 kW/m² to correspond to different fire scales
- Termination conditions: Clarify the termination judgment criteria for 4 types of tests
Analysis of core detection principles
Heat release rate calculation formula based on the oxygen consumption principle:
Key parameters in the formula:
| Parameter | Physical meaning | Unit | Acquisition method |
|---|---|---|---|
| C | Instrument calibration constant | m1/2·g1/2·K1/2 | Equipment calibration value |
| Δp | Orifice pressure difference | Pa | Real-time monitoring |
| XO20 | Initial oxygen concentration | mol/mol | 60-second average value |
Technical requirements for key equipment
Cone calorimeter as the core equipment must meet the following requirements:
- Radiation uniformity: Deviation within 50×50mm range ≤±2%
- Oxygen analyzer accuracy: 30-minute drift <50ppm
- Weighing system: Response time <4s, range ≥500g
Appendix A specifies the equipment structure requirements in detail, including the dimensional tolerances of key components such as the radiation cone (Figure A.1) and the positioning frame (Figure A.3).
Standardized operating procedures
- Sample preparation: Three layers of 100×100mm samples stacked, wrapped in aluminum foil (3mm beyond the upper surface)
- Environmental control: Temperature 15-30℃, humidity 20-80%
- Radiation calibration: Cone distance from sample (25±1)mm
- Ignition procedure: Water-cooled/non-water-cooled shielding layer difference operation
- Data acquisition: Oxygen concentration is recorded every 5 seconds until the termination condition is triggered
Implementation suggestions and risk control
Case: In the test of a flame-retardant curtain for an export, flash fire occurred under 50kW/m² radiation. Valid data was obtained by adjusting the sample positioning method (horizontal→vertical).
Special situation handling:
- Short-term combustion: duration 1-10s needs to be recorded separately
- Toxic gas: forced exhaust system must be equipped
- Abnormal data: check the saturation status of the CO₂ filter
