Scope

This standard applies to the design and construction of large steel welded low-pressure above-ground storage tanks with a single vertical rotation axis for storing petroleum intermediate products (gas or vapor), finished products and other similar liquids. This standard applies to tanks with a design pressure (gauge pressure) less than 0.1MPa (15lb/in) and a metal temperature not higher than 120℃ (250℉). The basic provisions of this standard apply to tank construction areas with a minimum daily average ambient temperature of -45℃ (-50℉) or above. The low-pressure stainless steel storage tanks in Appendix S are not limited by ambient temperature. Appendix R applies to low-pressure storage tanks for refrigerated products with a temperature range of -51℃ to 4.5℃ (-60℉ to + 40℉). Appendix Q applies to low-pressure storage tanks for liquefied hydrocarbon gases with a temperature not lower than -198℃ (-325℉). The provisions of this standard may be applied to: a) Liquid storage tanks with a gas phase space above the liquid surface. b) Storage tanks that contain or store gas or vapor alone, but not to suspended gas storage tanks. Internal and external pipes connected to the tank body of a storage tank built in accordance with this standard are not within the scope of this standard if they exceed the following ranges: a) The first flange sealing surface of a bolted flange. b) The first threaded joint of a threaded connection on the outside of the tank body. c) The first circumferential joint of a welded connection.
