Scope

This standard applies to the design verification of some pressure-containing products and equipment in the petroleum and natural gas industries. The methods included in this standard apply to the design when this standard is used as a reference document in the standard for petroleum and natural gas products, and to the design of parts where the methods of this standard are required or allowed. This standard is based on Appendix 4 to Section VIII, Division 2 of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (2004 Edition, including the 2005 and 2006 Supplements), but contains further limits for petroleum and natural gas products. This standard includes closed solutions and methods for elastic analysis, elastoplastic analysis, and guidance on finite element analysis methods. This method assumes ductile metallic material behavior and does not allow material defects. Fatigue analysis is not within the scope of this standard.
