Scope

1.1 This standard provides guidance for determining the minimum requirements required for external corrosion control on fixed offshore steel petroleum production platforms and associated oil and gas processing equipment. The corrosion control of the platform in this standard is divided into three areas: full immersion area, splash area and atmospheric area. Each area is discussed separately. 1.2 Due to the complexity of environmental conditions, this standard does not provide guidance for every special situation. In many cases, there may be several different solutions to the same problem, some of which may be appropriate and valuable. 1.3 This standard does not include guidance on internal corrosion control of oil wells, piping and related equipment attached to or built on the platform. 1.4 This standard covers external corrosion control of accessory piping above the splash zone. When the owner of the pipeline and the platform are different, the platform owner's responsibility for the pipeline usually terminates at a designated point, or at a valve on the platform. 1.5 The objectives set forth in this standard can be achieved by different methods, but the method selected should be used only if a qualified corrosion control expert agrees that the objectives stated in this standard have been achieved.
