Scope

This standard specifies the basic requirements and acceptance conditions for the manufacture and inspection of steel wire ropes for the petroleum and natural gas industry with a strength level not exceeding 2160N/mm. This standard includes steel wire ropes suitable for the following purposes: casing hoist ropes, oil pumping rod suspension ropes, sand bailing ropes, well washing ropes, cable tripping ropes, cable armored ropes, rotary drilling ropes, winch ropes, beam pumping unit donkey head ropes, bottom hole blaster ropes, mast ropes, guide rope tensioning ropes, riser tensioning ropes, anchor ropes, lifting slings and crane ropes. This standard is also applicable to logging wires and underground operation steel strands. In the appendix, this standard gives the minimum breaking tension of thick diameter steel wire ropes and single-strand (i.e. single-twist and sealed steel wire ropes) thick diameter steel wire ropes, and also gives the approximate mass of commonly used structural steel wire ropes and thick diameter steel wire ropes for reference only.
