Scope

This standard specifies the basic requirements and acceptance conditions for the manufacture and inspection of steel wire ropes for the petroleum and natural gas industry with a strength level not exceeding 2160N/mm. This standard covers the following products:
　——steel wire ropes (smooth steel wire ropes or coated steel wire ropes);
　——logging steel wire;
　——underground operation steel strand. This standard applies to the following typical uses of steel wire ropes: casing lifting ropes, oil pumping rod suspension ropes, sand bailing ropes, well washing ropes, cable tripping ropes, cable armored ropes, rotary drilling ropes, winch ropes, beam pumping unit donkey head ropes, bottom hole blaster ropes, mast ropes, guide rope tensioning ropes, watertightening ropes, anchor ropes, lifting slings and crane ropes. This standard also applies to logging steel wire and underground operation steel strand. The minimum breaking tensile forces of steel wire ropes of common specifications, strength levels and structures are listed in the given table. However, this standard is not limited to the categories listed in those tables. Other types of wire ropes such as compacted strand wire ropes and compacted wire ropes can also be consistent with the requirements of this standard. The minimum breaking tensile force of such wire ropes is given by the manufacturer. This standard gives the minimum breaking tensile force of thick diameter stranded wire ropes and single strand (i.e. single-twist and sealed wire ropes) thick diameter wire ropes in the appendix, and also gives the approximate mass of commonly used structural stranded wire ropes and thick diameter wire ropes for reference only.
