Background of Standard Revision and Technological Evolution
SY/T 5748-2020, as an alternative version of SY/T 5748-2013, has been revised to adapt to the technological progress of equipment such as high temperature and high pressure core holder. The standard has added a weighted average density calculation formula (Formula 1) and an outlet pressure determination method, reflecting the higher requirements for the evaluation of tight rock sealing in the development of unconventional oil and gas reservoirs in recent years.

Implementation suggestions
- For kerosene-saturated rock samples, the interfacial tension conversion must be performed according to formula (3):
Pw = Po×(σgw/σgo) - When the clay mineral content of the rock sample is greater than 15%, kerosene is preferably used as the saturated medium
- The breakthrough pressure test should be performed in a step-by-step manner according to the pressure intervals specified in Table 2, with each pressure point maintained for 30-120 minutes
- The outlet pressure setting should be 0.1-1.0MPa higher than the saturated vapor pressure of water at the test temperature
