Introduction
GB/T 14194—2017 Standard Revision Background and Significance
GB/T 14194—2017 "Compressed Gas Cylinder Filling Regulations" is an important revision that replaces the original standard GB/T14194—2006. This revision is based on the needs of industry development and technological progress, and has made many improvements and improvements to the original standard:
- Expanded the scope of application
- Added vacuum requirements for flammable gas and strong oxidizing gas cylinders
- Optimized the filling pressure calculation method
- Improved the safety operation specifications for cryogenic liquefied gases
These improvements are aimed at further improving the safety of the cylinder filling process and ensuring the safety of compressed gases in storage and transportation.
Interpretation of key provisions of the standard
4.4 Requirements for vacuuming of flammable and oxidizing gases
Gas cylinders must be vacuumed before filling with flammable gases or strong oxidizing gases. Specific requirements are as follows:
- Flammable gas cylinders must be vacuumed to below -80 kPa
- Oxidizing gas cylinders must be vacuumed to below -50 kPa
This provision is intended to prevent residual gas from causing explosions or oxidation reactions.
5.6 Filling pressure limits for special gases
For special gases such as fluorine (F₂) and nitric oxide (NO), the standard stipulates strict upper limits for filling pressures:
- Fluorine gas cylinders: the maximum filling pressure shall not exceed 3.0 MPa
- Nitric oxide gas cylinders: the maximum filling pressure shall not exceed 5.0 MPa
These restrictions are based on the physical and chemical properties of the gases to ensure safety and stability.
Analysis of Standard Technology Evolution
| Version Comparison Dimensions | Old version GB/T14194—2006 | New version GB/T14194—2017 |
|---|---|---|
| Scope of Application | Applicable only to permanent gas cylinders | Extended to all compressed gas cylinders (except natural gas mixed gas) |
| Filling Pressure Calculation Method | Specific formula not specified | A calculation formula based on temperature and compressibility coefficient was added |
| Safety Inspection Requirements | Relatively Simple | Detailed to the appearance, accessories, inspection validity period and other aspects of the gas cylinder |
Implementation suggestions and operating guidelines
Gas cylinder filling stations should strictly follow the following steps:
- Gas cylinder inspection process
- Confirm the gas cylinder production license and inspection validity period
- Inspect the appearance of the cylinder, the thread and sealing of the valve
- Check the consistency of the gas name and the steel stamp mark
- Preparation before filling
- Vacuum or replace
- Check the integrity of the gas cylinder safety accessories
- Ensure that the ambient temperature is consistent with the filling requirements
- Filling process control
- Check filling pressure and temperature bottle by bottle
- Monitor abnormal conditions such as bulging and deformation of gas cylinders
- Record and save filling data
