Comparison of three methods for total carbon determination

  • Gas volumetric method (0.1-40%): combustion at 1250℃, CO₂ volume measurement
  • Gravimetric method (≥0.1%): alkali asbestos absorption weighing
  • Infrared method (0.01-60%): high-frequency combustion infrared detection, efficiency increased by 300%

Recommendations for the implementation of the standard

  1. Resin-containing materials must be pretreated at 200-400℃
  2. Silicon carbide samples must be ground with a tungsten carbide mortar
  3. Attention should be paid to eliminating interference from the silicon matrix when determining by ICP-AES

Technology Evolution Analysis

This standard reduces the free carbon detection limit from 0.1% to 0.01% and shortens the silicon carbide determination time from 8 hours to 2 hours by introducing advanced technologies such as infrared absorption and nitrogen-oxygen joint measurement, significantly improving the quality inspection efficiency of high-carbon refractory materials.
