Introduction
In-depth interpretation of GB/T 16799-2018 furniture leather standard
1. Analysis of standard formulation background and technological evolution
GB/T 16799-2018 "Furniture Leather" is a comprehensive revision of the original standard GB/T 16799-2008, mainly optimizing the technical requirements and test methods for furniture leather. The new standard deletes the product classification chapter in the old version, adjusts the classification method and specific indicators of physical and chemical performance indicators, and adds new test items such as volatile organic compounds (VOC) and extractable heavy metals (lead, cadmium).
2. Standard framework comparison
| Standard dimensions | Indicator comparison | |||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Physical and chemical properties | Dry rubbing color fastness/grade | 50 times | ≥4 | 500 times |
| Wet rubbing color fastness/grade | 20 times | ≥3 | 250 times | |
| Light fastness/grade | ≥3/4 (old version) vs ≥5 (new version) | |||
| Coating adhesion fastness/(N/10mm) | - | ≥2.5 | - vs ≥2.5 | |
3. Interpretation and application of physical and chemical performance indicators
Rubbing color fastness:There are two test methods: dry rubbing and wet rubbing, which are suitable for different types of leather surfaces. Smooth leather uses a 1000g test head, while suede leather uses a 500g test head.
Lightfastness:The new standard requires a level of ≥5, which is stricter than the old standard of ≥3/4, reflecting higher requirements for environmental protection and sustainability.
Case study: Leather material testing in a furniture factory
The control effect of the new standard on VOC and heavy metal indicators was verified through actual test data. For example, during the test, it was found that the VOC content of leather materials provided by some suppliers exceeded the standard, which needed to be solved by improving the production process.
4. Sensory Requirements and Grading Standards
| Leather Grading Standards | ||||
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Items | Usable Area/% | First Grade | Second Grade | Third Grade |
| ≥85 | ≤3% | ≤5% | ≤7% | |
5. Implementation Suggestions
Enterprise level: It is recommended that enterprises establish internal testing laboratories and equip them with professional instruments such as coating thickness tester (GB/T 22889) and heavy metal rapid detector.
Regulatory level: Strengthen law enforcement, regularly sample furniture leather products on the market, and ensure the effective implementation of standards.
Consumer level: Choose products that meet national standards, and pay attention to product logos and test reports.
