Introduction

Background of Standard Revision and Technical Evolution

This standard replaces GB/T 16805-2009, mainly adding 12 new term definitions such as pressure balance, strengthening the management requirements for pressure test media, and adding 8 technical contents such as pressure test personnel qualifications and leak location. It reflects the industry's deepening understanding of pipeline integrity management, especially the prevention and control needs of new risks such as stress corrosion cracking (SCC).

Comparison of Core Test Types

Test Type Pressure Ratio Duration Core Purpose Defect Detection Capability
Peak Test ≥1.25 5min-1h Verify Structural Integrity Detect 86% of Deep Defects
Strength Test 1.25 ≥4h Determine Operating Pressure Limit Detect 66% of Deep Defects
Tightness test <1.25 ≥2h Verify no leakage Micron-level leakage detection

Key implementation requirements

Selection of pressure test medium

Water medium is preferred. When non-aqueous medium is used, the following six conditions must be met: Reid evaporation pressure <0.05MPa, non-submarine pipeline, and far away from densely populated areas. In special cases, static grounding equipment and leakage emergency treatment equipment must be configured.

Equipment Configuration Specifications

26 types of equipment are required, including: large volume pump (flow rate control 3-5km/h), pressure balance (accuracy 0.0067MPa), temperature sensor (deviation ≤0.5℃), etc. The measuring equipment should avoid the influence of extreme weather, and the pressure recorder needs to be calibrated every year.

Typical Implementation Case

In a DN1200 pipeline strength test, a nonlinear segment was found through the pressure-volume diagram (as shown in Figure 2), confirming that the residual air accounted for 0.18%. After installing an exhaust valve at a high point, the test pressure was stabilized at 12.5MPa (90%SMYS), and the pressure drop was ≤0.03MPa after 4 hours of pressure stabilization, which met the acceptance criteria.

Implementation recommendations

  1. New pipelines should be pressure tested within 72 hours after backfilling to avoid the impact of soil settlement
  2. The use of electronic positioning system in conjunction with acoustic detection can improve the efficiency of leak location by more than 40%
  3. It is recommended that the peak test pressure should not exceed 110% of SMYS to avoid plastic deformation of the material
  4. The test records should be kept permanently and include at least 53 data elements (see Appendix A)
