Introduction

National Standard of the People's Republic of China GB/T 1819.15—2017

Chemical analysis methods for tin concentrates Part 15: Determination of fluorine content - ion selective electrode method

Background of standard formulation and technological evolution

This standard is a revision of GB/T 1819.15—2006. The main revisions include: the symmetric sample weight has been adjusted, the melting sample method has been changed from sodium peroxide to sodium hydroxide-sodium peroxide, the lower limit of fluorine content has been changed from 0.020% to 0.010%, and the precision part and the newly added test report clauses have been optimized.

The ion selective electrode method is an analytical technique based on the principle of electrochemistry, which has the characteristics of high sensitivity, simple operation and strong applicability. With the advancement of science and technology, this method is increasingly used in the determination of fluorine content.

Item Original Standard GB/T1819.15—2006 New Standard GB/T1819.15—2017
Measurement Range 0.020% ~ 3.00% 0.010% ~ 3.00%
Sample Melting Method Sodium Peroxide Sodium Hydroxide-Sodium Peroxide
Precision Requirements Not Clear Add Repeatability and Reproducibility Data Table

Analysis steps and key points

Sample preparation:The sample particle size should not be greater than 0.074mm. It needs to be dried in an oven at 105°C ±5°C for 1 hour and cooled to room temperature.

Determination steps:

  1. Mix the sample with sodium hydroxide and heat to melt, then add sodium peroxide for secondary melting.
  2. Immerse the melt with water and filter, and adjust the pH value of the solution to 6.5 ~ 7.0.
  3. Prepare standard curve: Select the appropriate working curve (I or II) according to the fluorine content range for plotting.
  4. Use a fluoride ion selective electrode and a saturated calomel electrode to measure the equilibrium potential value of the solution through a potentiometer.

Instrument and reagent requirements

Instruments and equipment:

  • Fluoride ion selective electrode
  • Saturated calomel electrode
  • Potentiometer (accuracy 0.1mV)
  • Electromagnetic stirrer

Reagent preparation:

Including sodium hydroxide, sodium peroxide, sodium citrate-potassium nitrate solution, etc., which must be prepared strictly according to the standards and properly stored.

Precision requirements

Fluorine content range (%) Repeatability limit (r) Reproducibility limit (R)
0.010 ~ 0.20 0.002 ~ 0.007 0.004 ~ 0.010
0.20 ~3.00 0.05 ~0.10 0.07 ~0.12

Implementation Suggestions

  • Operators must undergo professional training and be familiar with the working principle and equipment use of the ion selective electrode method.
  • Prepare reagents strictly in accordance with standard requirements and calibrate instruments and equipment regularly.
  • During the measurement process, pay attention to the pH control of the solution and the accuracy of the blank test.
  • Select an appropriate working curve according to the fluorine content of the sample to improve the measurement accuracy.
